MARPE is an upper-jaw expander supported partly by small orthodontic mini-screws. In selected cases it aims for more skeletal expansion with less reliance on the teeth.
It is not suitable for everyone. Careful assessment of bone, gums, teeth, and skeletal maturity is required, and 3D imaging may be used for safe planning.
